What nogging is required if I’m building a wall or frame for a barn door? If you’re building a wall or frame specifically to suit a barn door install, you’ll need to add nogging at door height plus 45mm to align with the centre of the track. This ensures we have solid support to anchor the barn door hardware. Important note:Even with proper nogging, a mounting timber is still required. Why? Barn door bolts don’t hold well in just plasterboard or drywall. The mounting timber provides extra strength and stability. It also helps clear skirtings and architraves, ensuring the door slides smoothly without catching. Planning your wall with this in mind will save time and ensure a flawless finish for your barn door setup!
